ABOUT US

OUR Church Family

At First Baptist Cottondale, we truly believe that church is not just a place where you go, but a family that you belong to. From the babies in the nursery, to our Senior Saints and every age group in between, we are here for each other. We strive to grow together, in Christ, through the teaching of God’s Word and fellowship with each other. Throughout each week, we have many oppurtunities to be involved in a variety of services, classes, fellowships and activities. No matter what life stage you are in, we promise, there is something for you! Click here to see what we have going on this week.

OUr history

First Baptist Church of Cottondale was started in 1955 when Bro. Dub Turner, the founding pastor, saw a need for an Independent Baptist Church in the Cottondale area. The church was started on Easter Sunday, 1955, and eleven people signed the charter. The church met for the first year in the community building next to the Cottondale cemetery. An acre of land was secured at the current location about a year later, and a frame building was erected which served as the church building for over 30 years until 1990. The current church building was built in 1990, and the family life center which includes a gym, fellowship hall, missions apartment, and classrooms (built in 2002). Following Bro. Turner, several pastors ministered at the church until our current pastor, Bro. Charles Pugh, came in 1997.

Our beliefs

We believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments and that they compose the entire Word of God. The Scriptures are inerrant, infallible, and God-breathed; and therefore, are the final authority for faith and life. The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments are the complete and divine revelation of God to man. The Scriptures shall be interpreted according to their normal grammatical-historical meaning. The King James Version of the Bible shall be the official and only English-language translation used. (II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:20-21)
