Church Ministries
It is our belief that all members of the church should be involved in at least one ministry. Please contact Pastor Pugh if you are interested in any of these ministries. Below are listed some of the ministries currently occurring at the First Baptist Church of Cottondale.
AWANA – A children’s program for children age 3 through 6th grade that meets on Wednesday evening during the school year. It is a program that emphasizes scripture memory, has a Bible lesson, and also involves game time and snack time. AWANA has always been well attended, and there is almost always an area you can become involved in as a worker. This program began in 2000.
Our AWANA program commander is Jeff Stringer
Choir and Music – We are conservative in our music. We use traditional hymns, southern gospel, bluegrass gospel, and other conservative Christian music. If the Lord has blessed you with musical ability, we would love to have you involved in our music program.
Our music directors are Brother Deaun Carpenter and Brother Russell Robinson
Hospitality – Special meals for fellowships and special occasions are often needed.
Mrs. Doris Bridges is in charge of coordinating this ministry
.
Junior Church – There are two Junior Church groups that meet during the Sunday morning worship service - a preschool Junior Church , and a kindergarten through fourth grade Junior Church . The teachers and workers in these classes rotate every three to four weeks so that they do not miss the worship service all the time.
Junior Church is handled by Mrs. Bonnie Horton
We have an active Ladies Group that meets monthly during the school year. There is a mother-daughter banquet around Mother’s Day and a Christmas party. They also have a two day retreat with other churches in east Texas during September. Helpers are needed in several areas.
Mrs. Tina Pugh is the director of the ladies group.
Library – The church library provides Christian reading and reference material to all members of the church. New books are purchased on a regular basis. Mrs. Nancy Polster is our librarian.
Brother Bill Polster is the leader of the prayer chain.

Missions – We believe firmly in supporting foreign missionaries. 25% of all general funds go to support missions. Many individuals contribute designated funds specifically to missions. We currently support 32 missionaries and a total of about $4000 per month goes to our missionaries. We also sponsor trips to mission fields occasionally and hope to have missionaries on the field directly out of our local church.
Nursery – There are two nurseries – one for babies and one for toddlers. Ladies volunteer to watch the nursery on a rotating basis.
Prayer Chain – Special needs are made know to the church membership through a prayer chain. If you have a special need, contact the leader of this ministry.
Scripture Yard Signs – We provide scripture signs free of charge to be displayed in the yards of anyone who is interested.
Brother Clifford Tynes and Brother Mark Rosko are in charge of this ministry.

Sunday School – We have a Sunday School class for all ages. We currently have 18 Sunday School classes. Sunday School meets at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. There are occasionally openings for teachers and teacher’s helpers.
Brother Gary Owen is our Sunday School Superintendent.
Vans – We currently have four fifteen-passenger vans that are used to pick up those who need a ride on Sunday morning and Wednesday evening. We visit on Saturday to recruit people (especially children and teenagers) to ride the vans.
The van ministry is headed by Brother Terry Terry.

Visitation and Soul Winning – We visit in homes of those who have visited our church, members with special needs, those who have been absent, and to find prospects. We meet for this ministry each Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Youth – We have a full time youth minister - Brother Adam Joplin - who heads an active youth group. They have their own service on Wednesday evening beginning at 6:30p.m during the school year and at 7:00p.m. in the summer. There are many youth activities including a summer camp. The youth department is for 7th through 12th grades. There is a ministry for adults to work as helpers in the youth department.
Youth Choir – All children and youth that are interested have the opportunity to be part of our youth choir. The youth choir meets Sunday evening following the services.
